Imaginations from the Other Side is about as close to perfect as possible. Blind Guardian’s masterpiece album is simply breathtaking, from the first song, to the very end, it will keep you seated, and listening to this piece. There’s not much to complain about here, no matter how hard you try.
At first, the album starts off with the Song “Imaginations from The other Side”, a bit slowly at first, but that is soon resolved, the guitars get louder, and the drums come in. All the While, Hansi is singing in his now perfected voice. This album sounds nothing like the earlier ones “Follow the Blind” and “Battalions of Fear”. If it wasn’t for the familiar style in singing, you may not even recognize them. Throughout the song, there is a power chorus of “Imaginations From the other side” with a effect added to make it sound a bit higher and longer.
The next song, “I’m alive” is louder and more wild then the first. Complete with very fast drums and guitars, and mixed in with spectacular lyrics. The choruses of “IMMM AAALIVE!, MY FRIEND”! , there are no words to really describe it other than perfection. And the lines before that add up to those lyrics perfectly. I’m not going to give them away here in a lowly review.
The next song is just… wow. One of the best ballad like songs I have ever heard. It’s even a rival for the fabled Bard’s Song. Slowly starting off, it’s a acoustic song with a few stronger parts. There is something mystical about this song, it’s not just the calm, and peacefulness in it at first, there’s something about it that makes you want to listen more.
The Next song “The script for my Requim” is my least favorite song on this album, due to the start off the song and some of the not-so-good parts in between. The chorus although done well annoys me because they use the word miracles too much. It would be a better song I believe if it was made shorter. Currently, I there is too much of the same here. Still, it is not a bad song.
The five songs after this… Oh my God. How can you put together a more perfect lineup of songs? It goes; Mordred’s Song, Born in a Mourning Hall, Bright Eyes, Another Holy War, And the Story ends. All of these are some of my favorite songs ever. The way Mordred’s song creates a sense of Doom and maintains the dark atmostphere, and does it almost as well, or better than Ashes to Ashes. Born in a Mourning Hall has a simply perfect middle and end, the beginning, meh, I didn’t like it very much. While, Another Holy War and “And the Story Ends” are simply fast, melodic, and spectacular the whole way through. Bright Eyes is another balladish type song. Very sad, and very meaningful. The first time I listened to this, I had to go back and re-listen the song about three times. And I still love that song.
Apart from that, there are two bonus tracks. Well ok, one extended version one bonus, but you get the idea. They are both ok, but the Extended Version should have been the “shortened Version” You’ll see what I mean when you look at the album lineup.
Ok, so why did I talk about every song on the album? Isn’t this supposed to be a review, something general? The answer is yes. I always talk about the songs that hold the most interest the most. But on this album, just about all of them hold something special, a deeper meaning, or simply great music, and I couldn’t help but just keep writing about them.
Pointwise, .1 was taken for the Script for My Requim, and another .1 for the extended Version. Other than that, this album was perfect. If you decide not to listen to it, you are missing a serious amount of power metal at it’s finest. A superb album from a superb band.
