 I’m not really a big fan of singles. That’s for sure. For me, they are a quick cheap preview of an album, or a way to make some extra bucks while recording another album. Well, I can’t really hold that much hate for this one, mind you, not because it’s Blind Guardian, but because I enjoyed it, and I think it’s a decent release, even though it’s a single.
Ok, so we start off with “Bright Eyes”, an “edited” version. It is slightly altered from the other versions, it is not the acoustic version either, still has the heaviness in it, but it changes up some key points. If you have listened to this song a few times before, you’ll catch what I mean, if not, they you’ll probably not really catch what I’m saying. It’s a very good song, this version adding a good deal of anger to the song, not just sadness, like some of the other versions do.
Next up, we have “Mr. Sandman”. A waste of CD space. I didn’t like it, and unless you are a fan of the original, you probably won’t like this one either. If this never happened it would be a hell of a lot better single.
Starting off strong and mystical, is Hallelujah , the chants of the title are very special to this song, and add a very important feel to this song. Hansi sings with all of his normal powerful voice. This song has a extremely good tempo and guitar plays, unfortunately, this song never became very popular.
Up next, there are two demo versions of songs. Imaginations from the other side, and A past and future secret. Both are decent, and present a noticeable alteration of the original songs, they both sound much more raw, a different sound than that found on the original. Decent, but not worth it.
In the end, this is your typical single, a few new songs, a few old ones, a bit of extra content. Fans and collectors may want to take a look at this, I don’t recommend it to you if you, unless you find it for 5 dollars or under.
