“Armory” coming from Townsend, Massachusetts, USA is a Power Metal band that was formed by some school mates eight years ago, in 2001. Even if they’re American, their sound is moving in the fields of the European music scene, most notably British Heavy Metal and German Power Metal.
This album “The Dawn of Enlightenment” is basically a remake of the record they released in 2004 under the same name, but with a more professional approach in everything. The songwriting was already very good so the things they changed were the production, the package of the album (artwork and the like) and also some re-recordings were done. The result is truly magnificent since the album has nothing to fear from the top releases of the big names in the genre.
Their sound is a lot similar to Edguy not only in music but in vocals as well. Their vocalist, Adam Kurland, sounds a lot like Tobias Sammet and even sometimes resembles the early singer of Kamelot, Mark Vanderbilt, but this one is much better. The band is really lucky to have a guy like this as front man. But the rest of the guys aren’t bad either, just check the guitar work in a random song… Even the worst song you can find has amazing guitar works and the whole instrumentation is superb. Just look at these guys, they may be young but they’re so talented. If their next record is as good as this, they’re on the way for success.
In a few lines their music is something between Iron Maiden and Edguy. They may not be that original, but who can be these days, so that’s not really a problem. All in all it’s a very good record and if you buy it, you won’t be disappointed. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you there’s a cover of Dr. Wily’s stage music from the “Mega Man 2” game, so if you like Nintendo music, check it!
